Una Cotter is a Registered Mental Health Nurse with over 22 years experience. She is also a Nutritional Therapist in Naturopathic Medicine and is registered with the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI). In working with people who experience mental health difficulties, she aims to provide an integrative, holistic approach to mental health. Her passion is to empower people in managing their mental and their physical health with the goal of achieving optimal health and recovery.
Nutritional therapy offers an evidence-based approach to using the medicinal properties of food and nutrition necessary for the body to self-heal. It encompasses the body as a whole, not disregarding the effects of biology, psychology or lifestyle on your mental health. This enables Una to work together with her clients and treat the underlying causes of mental health difficulties rather than solely treating symptoms.
This is based on the premise that our body operates as a system and mental health difficulties can be triggered and driven by an imbalance in the body systems, such as:
- Poor gut health
- Hormonal imbalances
- Detoxification difficulties
- Nutritional deficits
- Poor sleep
- Adverse life events
- Lifestyle factors
Una’s personal experience and professional background places her in a confident position to work collaboratively with people who experience mental health difficulties and integrate Nutritional Therapy into their life, whether or not they have been already prescribed medication, or are engaging in psychological or complementary treatments.
